What are different hormonal problems ?

Hormonal problems result from either:

  • excess production or action of a hormone
  • less production or action of a hormone
  • interference of one hormone into another hormone action

Common hormonal problems include:

  1. Diabetes – less production or action of Insulin
  2. Hypoglycemia – more production or action of Insulin
  3. Hypothyroidism – less production of thyroid hormones
  4. Hyperthyroidism – more production of thyroid hormones
  5. Post-menopausal osteoporosis – decreased production of Estrogen at menopause
  6. Short height – less production or action of Growth hormone
  7. Acromegaly/gigantism – more production or action of Growth hormone
  8. Addison’s disease – Less production of steroid hormone
  9. Cushing’s syndrome – More production of steroid hormone
  10. PCOS – more testosterone in females
  11. Hirsutism – more testosterone in females
  12. Gynecomastia – more estrogen in males
  13. Low testosterone in males
  14. Hypercalcemia – more production or action of PTH hormone
  15. Hypocalcemia – less production or action of PTH hormone
  16. SIADH – more production or action of ADH hormone
  17. Diabetes insipidus – less production or action of ADH hormone
  18. High blood pressure – more production of adrenal hormones
  19. Low blood pressure – less production of adrenal hormones
